Anan Creek is in Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska. It has a large pink salmon run that supports a high population of black and brown bears. Each summer around the first week of August the salmon enter the creek at hide tide and make their way to pools at the bottom of a stairstep cascade. There they rest before they climb the falls and run the gauntlet of hungry bears and eagles.
